Summer 2023 -- June to August

 June Mission Support:   Harvest House

Harvest House is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.  Outreach ministries include the Baby and Children's Ministry, Good Neighbors Health Care, and New Hope Education.  Carol Murphy spoke to us about the importance of reaching out to people with struggle with trauma.  Volunteers and service providers include "trauma informed care" in their holistic care provided for clients at the Ministry Center.   Our community has supported Harvest House often during our fifteen years.

Ride for Roswell -- Team Newman
The Ride for Roswell was a team effort, thanks to the leadership of Renie Stevens and Perry Figliotti.  Funds raised exceeded $20,000 with Renie collecting donations for over half that amount.  Funds are used by the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation for cutting edge research into cancer treatment and also for direct, compassionate support of people receiving treatment and recovering from their treatment.

More photos from the Ride!

The team thanks everyone in the JNMC and beyond, for their tremendous support.

July Mission Support:  Nicaraguan Mission

The Nicaraguan Mission has been helping people with humanitarian aid and spiritual support for over forty years, thanks to the tireless efforts of Ann Marie Zon.   Our Newman Community (even before JNMC) was supporting the mission for over 30 years.    Now, with the government's persecution of all  humanitarian aid organizations that they don't control, the overt distribution of aid to the people has been curtailed and is now done on a family-by-family, or person-by-person method.   The mission is very grateful for the support.   Ann Marie writes:
… when people come:  priests, nuns, families, individuals …. whenever anyone comes looking for “help’ that we can provide, it is given…   And that can be done because of the continued, faithful sharing of communities such as yours …
Make no mistake:  you are more of a vital part of our project than you could ever imagine, and I say that sincerely ….
Our gratitude for your faithfulness in support … in prayer …. In friendship ... is more than deeply sincere….

JNMC Annual Picnic at Sunset Park

Thank you, Ralph and Diane Mercuri and everyone who brought delicious side dishes to share!

August Highlights
The community support this month goes to Friends of Night People in Buffalo.  The agency has been serving the community for 50 years and is expanding its outreach in Buffalo by opening more locations in collaboration with six partners in the city.  Food insecurity remains a major concern for Friends of Night People and they remain committed to help all those who come to them.   They also provide clothing and personal care items.
Family Mass
Our annual "Family Mass" was well attended on August 13.
Thank you, Mary DeWald, for encouraging our young members to fully participate all aspects of the Sunday Liturgy.

Backpacks for East Buffalo -- Donated to Sister Johnice at Response to Love Center
The JNMC combined individual donations of back-to-school items with a generous partner, The Teacher's Desk in Buffalo.   Fifty filled bags plus another handful were presented to Sister Johnice during our Sunday mass, under the tent.

For those with a Facebook account, here is a video "Thank You" from Sister Johnice.    Video -- Click Here Video Link
