April to August 2022 - Mission Support

Mission Support from April to August 2022

-----------

April 2022 - Family Promise

Our community supported this facility in Buffalo, which houses families who remain together as families until permanent housing is found for them.   Our support will help them with much needed upgrades to the facility, and with funds for down payments and security deposits.   Here is link to the web site for more details:  https://fpwny.org/

May 2022 - Buffalo Peace House

This organization now has two safe havens for asylum seekers in Hamburg.  Along with basic needs, the organization provides legal services for the people in residence to achieve refugee status.   Once that happens, people are eligible to work and to be active in the WNY community.   Here is a link to the web site for more details:  https://www.buffalopeacehouse.org/about/

 June 2022 - Nicaragua Mission

Our financial support will aid the people in this country being ruled by harsh, dictator - government that has little or no concern for the needy.   Shipments of humanitarian aid have been blocked, so our support has to be wired to a trustworthy priest in the country.   Funds go to provide food, clothing, school supplies and medical care.

July 2022 - Hearts for the Homeless

We continue or commitment and our support for this outreach center in the Riverside area of Buffalo.  The mission has evolved to include a much needed food pantry, which serves hundreds of families in the neighborhood.  Inflation has impacted families-in-need quite heavily, and this food pantry helps in a great way.  The mobile food distribution continues in downtown Buffalo five nights per week, providing hot meals to the homeless.    Here is a link to the website for more details:  https://heartsforthehomeless.org/about-us/

August 2022 - Friends of Night People

Our dear community member, Ro Sugg, and her late husband, Paul, have volunteered to help this long-standing organization for decades.   They continue to provide food for the homeless at several dining facilities.    Ro spoke to the community at mass, and thanked us for our continued support.  Friends of Night People continues to serve the homeless community with dignity.    Here is a link to the website for more details:     https://friendsofnightpeople.com/

RIDE FOR ROSWELL

On June 25th, Team Newman participated in the Ride for Roswell.

Under the leadership of Renie Stevens and Perry Figliotti, the team raised over $24,000 in support of cancer research at Roswell Park.   Thank you to all who supported this annual event.  The Ride for Roswell reached $5.6 million in donations.   We all ride in honor of those who are survivors, and in memory of those who we have lost to the disease.

Annual Summer Picnic - July 31
Thank you to Diane and Ralph Mercuri for coordinating and providing all the hands-on support for our annual picnic, which returned to being a catered affair.   (sorry for the limited number of photos, but there were over 50 in attendance, who enjoyed a great day together)

Back to School -- Backpacks for Sister Johnice
Our community donated fifty, filled backpacks to Sister Johnice at the Response to Love Center, thanks to individual donations and the support of The Teacher's Desk in Buffalo.   Families who are helped by Sister Johnice's outreach in East Buffalo received these backpacks.
