The John Newman Mission Community begins our 16th year of service as an "intentional community of faith and service". We are always thankful to our three priests: Father Paul Steller, Father "Duke" Zajac and Father Jim Croglio. On September 1, Father Paul retired as pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption parish. We are blessed that he will remain active in ministry with our community.
Thank you to our community of volunteers, who work year-round to allow our community be effective in our outreach mission, community well being, and in our full participation in worship.

Mission for September: Timau Mission
Our community support for Timau Mission originated years ago because of our relationship with the Sisters of St Francis of the Neumann Community. Sister Joanne Gangloff OSF, has returned to Williamsville after decades of dedicated service to the Mission in Kenya. The mission continues to provide education, medical care, food and humanitarian necessities for the marginalized population in Kenya. Sister Joanne remains our liaison with the mission. Our community also supports and sponsors three children: Freddy, Wendy and Duncan. A link to their recent activity is found here: Update
Mission for October -- People Against Trafficking Humans (PATH)
This faith-based organization is committed to do all they can to free people from human bondage. It's hard to believe that this happens in WNY, but hundreds of cases have been documented in recent years. The Director, Julie Palmer, spoke to us at mass during the month and explained how we can help, especially at their newly opened Enrichment Center on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo.
Mission for November -- VETS HERD
Once again, our community is supporting this grass-roots organization in support of a variety of small projects and activities to help military veterans with specific needs. This year, a number of electric mobility carts have been refurbished and donated to veterans. Small projects have been funded to improve veteran's homes for better accessibility, such as adding a wheelchair ramp. Also, some funds have been directed for therapy sessions, whereby the sport of boxing is taught to veterans with Parkinson's disease. These sessions have proven to be effective, and national attention has been generated for even greater funding for more veterans with the disease.
December Community Activity and Outreach
The month of December allows the JNMC Outreach to extend to a number of agencies so as to assist them in their support of people in need. Thanks to the generosity of the community throughout the year, funds on hand from the JNMC treasury are being sent to:
[] Harvest House -- for food/gift cards to help those with food insecurity. Also, three clients will be gifted with new appliances for their apartments: two refrigerators and one stove

Gifts for Children served by Response to Love Center
Once again, our community provided dozens of wrapped Christmas gifts for children in families who are served by Sister Johnice and the Response to Love Center. Thank you to Pam and Tom Lawless for the coordination of gifts and for delivering the gifts to Sister Johnice.
